Bromsgrove Library to finally make its move at the end of the month

Bromsgrove Editorial 8th Nov, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

BROMSGROVE Library will finally move to its new premises in the historic and listed former Parkside School building at the end of this month.

The library will close its doors on Stratford Road at 4pm next Saturday (November 14) and books and furniture will be moved to the Stourbridge Road site, ready for the big opening of the new building at 9am on November 30.

Customers are being given extended loan periods to ensure no books are due back during the closure period.

The nearest libraries for residents during the closure period are Catshill, Rubery, Droitwich, Hagley, Redditch and Kidderminster, although items which have been borrowed can be returned to any Worcestershire library.

The facilities and services offered in the new library will not change – there will be free internet access, children’s activities, adult learning courses and other regular activities all on offer.

The Parkside development will see a £6.9million joint enterprise created between Worcestershire County Council and Bromsgrove District Council and, as well as the library, will also provide space for the Bromsgrove Customer Service Centre, the district’s Registration Service and the town’s JobCentrePlus office.

Volunteers are also being sought for a number of new roles in the new library, including meeting and greeting customers, being digital champions to help get people online, unpacking stock and getting involved with library clubs and other events.

Visit http://www.worcestershire.gov.uk/info/20002/community_and_volunteering or call into the library for more information on the roles.

It was hoped the community hub in the former Parkside School building would be up and running at the start of October.
