BROMSGROVE could be in line to get a Waitrose store if the latest plans for the town’s derelict Market Hall are given the go ahead.
Hinton Group, the preferred developer for the site, is ready to submit a planning application for the Waitrose-led retail scheme.
But, before the proposal goes into Bromsgrove District Council, a special consultation event will be held.
Residents are being urged to go along to a special showcase of the plans between 9am and midday on Thursday (October 1) at Amphlett Hall, Crown Close, and give their views on the scheme.
Representatives of both Hinton Group and Waitrose will be on hand to answer any questions raised and the comments will then be taken into consideration.
The application will then be submitted to Bromsgrove District Council in early October.
The investment will see a 23,500sq ft development built, which will include the 9,000sq ft ‘Little Waitrose’ store. The store alone, if it gets the green light, will bring around 60 jobs to the town.
If the development is given the green light, Hinton Group is hoping work will start in early 2016 with the Waitrose being completed and open for business by the end of the year.
The Bromsgrove-based property developer has also revealed to The Standard it is in discussion with a number of other operators for the remaining units on the site and, it added, the refurbished car park would also be kept as part of the development.
A Bromsgrove District Council spokesperson said the authority had worked hard to promote the regeneration of what was a key town centre site.
“This consultation provides an opportunity for residents to have input into the proposals for the site being formulated by the developers in advance of a formal planning application.”
