BROMSGROVE Rovers AFC finished their league campaign in third place despite a disappointing 5-2 defeat against Hollyfields in their final fixture, writes Neil Gordon.
Billy Harris and Bailey Depper-Gwilliams cancelled out strikes by Nathan Wilkins and Louie Humphries at Woodacre Road before Wilkins then buried a header in a frantic opening 30 minutes.
Humphries struck twice more after the interval to complete a hat-trick and consign a depleted Rovers to their sixth defeat of the campaign, as Bromsgrove rested players ahead of their Intermediate Cup final against Desi this weekend.
The Greens end their inaugural season in Division One of the Birmingham and District Football League on 31 points. Bromsgrove could receive additional points from the league for other club’s breaches of rules.
The match also marked the final league fixture for Bromsgrove manager Spencer Machin who steps down from his role on Saturday.
Machin became manager when Rovers formed in 2021 and oversaw the club’s entry into competitive football, in Division Three of the Birmingham and District Football League, and his side’s subsequent rise up to Division One.
Bromsgrove play Desi in the final of the Intermediate Cup at Sutton United’s Hollyfield Road on Saturday, May 9. Kick-off is 3pm.
