FOOTBALL - First-half blitz helps Bromsgrove Rovers AFC to victory at North Solihull

FIVE FIRST-HALF goals saw Bromsgrove Rovers AFC record a fine 5-3 away victory over a strong North Solihull side, writes Neil Gordon.

Strikes by Alex Hopper, Bailey Deehan, Robbie Davis, Jack Dawkins and Rhys Whitehouse saw the Greens five-nil ahead by the interval at Coleshill Road.

Last season’s Division Two runners-up North Solihull hit back with three second-half goals, while Rovers lost Deehan late on to a second yellow card.

The result sees Bromsgrove mid-table on 16 points from 11 games in Division One of the Birmingham and District Football League, four points behind fourth-placed Village FC with four games in hand.

Rovers have now hit 19 goals in five games, and also reduced their goal difference to minus one, as they continue to adjust to playing at their highest level since forming four years ago.

Meanwhile, leaders Sutton United remain four points clear at the top on 32 points from 13 games, while second-placed Desi have two games in hand.

Bromsgrove play Silhill at Eldorado Close on Saturday, April 18. Kick-off is 2.30pm and admission free.
