BROMSGROVE Rovers AFC suffered a surprise 3-1 home defeat against Hampton Sports as the club failed to move away from the relegation zone, writes Neil Gordon.
Bailey Depper-Gwilliams’ goal proved all Rovers had to show in their first game since the club announced that manager Spencer Machin is to step down at the end of the season.
Bromsgrove had been looking to build on their superb 3-3 draw away at unbeaten leaders Sutton United two weeks ago.
The result leaves Rovers second from bottom of the Birmingham and District Football League Division One table on four points from six games, with one win, one draw and four defeats recorded.
Depper-Gwilliams put the Greens ahead on 22 minutes only for Luke Bennet and Adam Priestly to combine to put the visitors 2-1 up by half-time.
Harry Jones then added a third for Sports in the closing stages of the second-half to consign Bromsgrove to their third home defeat of the season.
And Rovers have as many as eight games in hand as they embark on 11 league fixtures over the next five weeks, including four midweek games during April, to clear their fixture backlog following a string of weather-related postponements and cup commitments.
Bromsgrove entertain Kings Heath Rangers at Eldorado Close on Saturday, March 28. Kick-off is 2.15pm and admission free.
