A CHARITY football match played in memory of Bromsgrove Rovers legend Mark Crisp has raised more than £16,000 for the Primrose Hospice.

A Bromsgrove Rovers XI took on a Birmingham City All Stars side as Blues claimed a 4-2 victory on the day.

Mark’s son Max set up the charity game at the Victoria Ground in his father’s memory and raised a total of £16,464 for the Primrose Hospice.

Mark, who made close to 350 appearances for Rovers and scored 91 goals, died at the age of 60 in October 2024.

He memorably scored the opening goal for Rovers against Barnsley in the FA Cup third round back in 1993/94.

Blues led by two goals at the break courtesy of a Matt Birley brace before James Lemon halved the deficit for Rovers.

However, Blues added a third goal before Darren Carter increased the lead as Lemon’s audacious lob from just inside the Birmingham half completed the scoring.

The Rovers team featured former players Stewart Brighton, Steve Stott, Mark Whitehouse, Nigel Watson, Nick Hanks, Scott Cooksey, Colin Radburn and Martin O’Connor.

And local players Luke Dugmore, Craig Barnett, Chris Glover, Martin Keight, Dean Tilley, John Snape and Jim McGettrick also featured for Rovers.

Club legend Dougie Griffiths, who served as Bobby Hope’s assistant manager during the club’s glory days, led the Bromsgrove side.

Birmingham’s team included former Premier League players Craig Gardner, Lee Carsley, Roger Johnson, Maik Taylor and Carter.

And Marcos Painter, Martin O’Connor, Dele Adebola, Danny Scheppel and Birley also featured for the Blues All Stars side.

A raffle with prizes, which included match-worn Premier League shirts, also took place on the day.

All money raised on the day went directly to the Primrose Hospice.
