HOPWOOD Swifts suffered a major blow to their title hopes after losing 4-1 against Desi in a clash between second and third, writes Neil Gordon.
Hopwood’s Cam Jones bagged his 14th goal of the season just before the interval to cancel out Desi’s opener at Aston University’s Birmingham Road Campus.
However, Swifts conceded a further three second-half goals to leave them reeling.
Swifts remain second in the Birmingham and District Football League Division One table on 19 points, eight points behind undefeated title-favourites Sutton.
Hopwood manager, Matt Lewis said: “I’m very disappointed with the result and performance, particularly the second-half.
“We have to work to bounce back from adversity and at being more resilient.
“Our league challenge took a real dent, and it will now be difficult.
“But on a positive note, this was only our second league defeat this season.
“So we reset next week, and go again.”
