FAMILY HUBS in the county are now offering a free piece of fruit to children when they, their parents and carers visit, writes Maya Dabrowska.

At the hubs, hubs families can learn about support they have eligibility for, along with tips on food planning, reducing food waste and saving money.

To encourage healthy habits and stress the importance of families eating their ‘five-a-day’, Worcestershire County Council’s Public Health Team has ensured fresh fruit will be available at the reception of every family hub.

The scheme has been put in place in support of families maintaining balanced diets, providing essential vitamins, minerals and fibre.

Coun Satinder Bell, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “Its great news family hubs are encouraging healthy eating habits and helping children and families build positive habits from an early age.

“Starting this behaviour early stays with you and benefits you throughout your life.

“Healthy eating is incredibly important for families.

“Getting at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day helps grown-ups stay healthy and supports children to grow and develop well.”
