BROMSGROVE RFC suffered a 47-33 defeat away at league leaders Bournville in the club’s first game of the New Year.
The Boars ran in five tries at Avery Fields as Rhys Williams and Ben Tibbetts both crossed twice while Will Harris touched down as the visitors came away with a try bonus point.
And the result means Bromsgrove sit fifth in the Regional 1 Midlands table.
Bournville raced into a commanding lead after crossing three times without reply inside the first half an hour.
However, the Boars responded on the 30-minute mark when Williams dotted down to reduce the deficit.
The home side crossed again before the break while Harris touched down Bromsgrove’s second try as the visitors trailed by 14 points at the interval.
Bournville scored an intercept try at the start of the second period which took the game out of Bromsgrove’s reach.
However, the Boars rallied as Williams grabbed his second try while Tibbetts scored the away side’s bonus point try.
The two teams exchanged tries again as Bournville crossed for a sixth time while Tibbetts dotted down to bring the visitors within seven points of the leaders.
However, Bournville scored a try on the final play of the game to deny the Boars a losing bonus point.
Bromsgrove are next in action against Bridgnorth on Saturday, January 24 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Finstall Park.
