STUDENTS from South Bromsgrove High School won the annual Michael Holt Debating Competition.
The ‘Youth Speaks’ event was hosted by Bromsgrove Rotary Club and held in the Hospitality Suite at Bromsgrove School, showcasing some exceptional debating talent.
The competition featured young people from North Bromsgrove High, South Bromsgrove High and Bromsgrove School.
South Bromsgrove High impressed the judges with their articulate and persuasive discussion on the motion: ‘Young people have never had it as good as now’. Their team, comprising chairperson Matilda Middleton, proposer Xander Dixon, and opposer Georgia Eades, demonstrated confidence, clarity and teamwork throughout the competition.
Judges praised the high level of preparation and performance across all schools, noting how close the final scores were.
Chris Smith, headteacher at South Bromsgrove High School, said: “Every student should feel immensely proud of their contribution to an evening that celebrated critical thinking and public speaking.”
As winners, South Bromsgrove High will now progress to the Rotary District Final in February, where they will represent Bromsgrove against other top-performing schools in the region.
The team also retained the prestigious Michael Holt Debate trophy.
