Community-minded Chadsgrove College students take over Catshill's Poppy Appeal box delivery

COMMUNITY-minded students at Chadsgrove Educational Trust Specialist College have taken over the running of Catshill’s Poppy Appeal collection box delivery.

The young people stepped in after long-term organiser Daren Lacey, who has done it for ten years, had to stand down to focus on another community project.

He will still run the local count centre and be the lead for the Remembrance Sunday Parade, which starts at Catshill Social Club at 9.30am on November 9 with the service at the memorial after.

Chadsgrove College students have long been supporters of both the Royal British Legion and Poppy Appeal.

As well as being involved in previous Poppy Appeals, they also held a special VE Day 80 event at their Cozy Cafe in May.

They will deliver Poppy Appeal boxes in the local area.

An RBL spokesperson said: “We are so grateful for their efforts – they are a credit to the college and the wider Catshill community.”

Leigh Blakeman, from Chadsgrove College, said: ‘ After many years collecting for the Poppy Appeal, the college students are delighted to have their dedicated efforts recognised and be offered the opportunity to take over as the official organisers for Catshill this year.

“It is so important for them to be given work experience opportunities that also support community based projects.

“The students thrive off being able to help others and are looking forward this new challenge.”

Any person or business in Catshill wanting a Poppy Appeal box should call 01527 871511 extension 400 or ‘Option 2’.
