A BRAND new reading hut and sensory garden have been installed on the playground at Millfields First School, thanks to funding from Howden Insurance.

The exciting additions are designed to support both literacy development and the mental health and wellbeing of pupils aged between two and nine.

The reading hut will be a dedicated outdoor space filled with books, offering children the opportunity to enjoy reading during play times in a calm and inviting environment.

The sensory garden will provide a peaceful area for reflection, relaxation, and sensory exploration – supporting emotional regulation and wellbeing for all pupils.

As well as Howden’s contribution, further cash was raised by the school community during the summer fair, demonstrating the strong support and enthusiasm from families and friends of the school.

Headteacher Lisa Montandon said the school was grateful to Howden insurance and everyone who supported the summer fair.

“These new spaces will make a real difference to our children – encouraging a love of reading and providing a calm, nurturing environment to support their mental health and wellbeing.”
