A LEADING young people’s charity in Bromsgrove has taken another step on its path to transform youth provision across the district after it celebrated the grand opening of its very own dedicated space this week.

Bromsgrove Youth and Community Hub, affectionately known as The Hub, marked the occasion on Tuesday, September 9, at its new home at 22 Market Street.

Local dignitaries – including Bromsgrove District Council leader councillor Karen May, Reverend Ray Khan, and representatives from the police and other community groups – attended.

Youngsters making good use of the centre were also around on the day to cut the ribbon and celebrate the organisation’s move to it’s new town centre premises.

Craig Mathews, senior youth worker at The Hub, said: “The young people said it was an honour and a privilege to cut the ribbon and be able to tell people our journey at the hub and what it means to the young people of Bromsgrove.”

The Hub, which officially launched in 2018 following high demand amongst young people, is led by a core team of leaders and a group of dedicated volunteers. Since its early days operating out of Bromsgrove Baptist Church, it has grown into a registered charity with its own town centre premises.

The centre offers a safe space not only for young people but also for over-60s, providing alternative school provision and a wide range of weekly activities.

It hosts Bromsgrove Youth Council, a targeted youth group, activity days such as cooking, games and crafts, a music group, an ‘anti-social social club’, sports sessions and allotment projects.

The centre also runs targeted sessions for the LGBTQ+ community and SEND individuals, arranges trips and holidays and is very hands-on in the community with its continued outreach work.

To become a reality, since its inception was mooted as far back as 2016, the project has gained the support and financial backing of various organisations who have helped bring it to life.

Sarah McIntosh, volunteer CEO and co-founder, shared a heartfelt thank you to all the organisations who have supported The Hub in its growth over the years. The Hub has received support from countless organisations including local authorities, central Government, emergency services and much more.

Particular honorable mentions went to UK Electrical, Impression Communications, Worcester Bosch and NewStarts.
