POLICE chiefs have been urged by the Bromsgrove MP to step up patrols in Wythall and Hollywood after his recent survey highlighted key issues with crime and disorder in the village.
MP Bradley Thomas conducted a survey on residents views around crime and anti-social behaviour with Wythall residents raising concerns around burglary, car theft, fly tipping, speeding and drug dealing.
Following the survey, the MP brought West Mercia Police’s chief constable, Richard Cooper and police and crime commissioner, John Campion, to the town to discuss issues with residents.
Last Monday (August 18), when the pair joined the politician for a chat with residents, Mr Thomas urged the force to ‘step up patrols’ and ‘deter criminality’ in the area to ‘ensure residents feel safe.’
Further highlighting the need for increased police presence were three shop break-ins across the two villages on the day of the police visit.
Mr Thomas said: “I’m grateful to the Chief Constable and our Police and Crime Commissioner for joining me in Wythall.
“Police visibility is key. Increased patrols and reducing crime is a key part of my plan for Bromsgrove, and I’m keeping my promise to work with the police to ensure our constituency remains a safe place to live and work.”
Chief Constable Richard Cooper “enjoyed patrolling Wythall and speaking to retailers.”
He added: “The local neighbourhood team have achieved many good results by working with stores and targeting repeat offenders.
“I expect us to continue focusing on the places and people most involved in crime, just as our communities expect of their police service”.
The PCC, John Campion, said he is committed to ensuring concerns raised by local communities are listened to and acted on.
He added he regularly engaging with residents in Wythall, with this visit being a chance to showcase to Mr Thomas some of the “proactive policing” being done.
