A TENACIOUS 12-year-old from Bromsgrove has been walking an incredible 15,000 steps-a-day throughout August to raise funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).
Evie Marsh wanted a challenge for the summer holiday so decided to take part in the MNDA fundraiser.
Her dad, Chris, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2022.
Evie has raised cash before for MNDA by selling her toys on the front drive, but has never done anything like this.
Her proud grandma Mary Marsh said: “15,000 steps every day in August is a huge challenge for adults let alone a 12-year-old.
“I don’t know how many people nationally or even locally are doing this challenge.
“Evie’s set herself a target of raising £150 sponsorship but has smashed that with over £1,400 to date.”
She started fundraising a couple of days before August 1 and won an MNDA bucket hat.
Mary added: “I and all her family are so proud of her for doing this.
“She is very determined and goes out walking several times a day to reach the target.
“Her sister Freya walks with her every day and other people walk with her as well to keep her company.”
Evie said on her fundraising page: “My dad was diagnosed with this horrible disease and I want to help other families to deal with it.
“MND takes everything away from the sufferer not just being able to walk and talk.
“Help me to help others and together let’s try and find a cure so no more families have to suffer.
“It’s not just about the money (but that helps) – I want to raise awareness of this ‘rare’ disease.
“Right now, around 5,000 people in the UK are living with MND and every step I take is for them.”
