FAMILIES in Bromsgrove are being invited to a free weekend of fun at the town’s sport and leisure centre to mark the end of the summer holidays and the start of the new school year.
The ‘Meet your Classmates – Back to School’ open weekend takes place at Bromsgrove Sport and Leisure Centre on Saturday and Sunday, August 30 and 31 (10am to 5pm).
The event is being run by Everyone Active in partnership with Bromsgrove District Council and is open to people of all ages and abilities.
Among the free activities on offer are family swim sessions on Saturday at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm, and throughout Sunday from 8am to 5pm. Swim teachers will be on poolside to offer advice, and there will be taster sessions for swim lessons across various age groups.
Visitors can also take part in a ‘Save a Child’s Life’ workshop, delivered by the Royal Life Saving Society UK, which teaches CPR and emergency skills. These will run on Saturday at 1pm and Sunday at 10am.
Free Clip ‘n Climb wall sessions will be held at 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm on both days.
There will also be entertainment from local family-friendly businesses, including face painting, glitter tattoos, a local ice cream van, children’s entertainers, and appearances from the popular Everyone Active monsters.
Ben Betteridge, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “The start of the new school year can bring nerves and excitement for children.
“Our open weekend is all about helping young people to meet new classmates in a fun and relaxed environment, all while keeping active and bringing the local community together.
“We hope to welcome families to a fantastic, active weekend that is completely free and encourage anyone thinking of coming along to get involved and see what brilliant facilities we have to offer.”
Councillor Bernard McEldowney, Bromsgrove District Council’s portfolio holder for Leisure, added: “What a great way to end the summer holidays and prepare for the school year ahead.”
No booking is needed for general entry, but spaces for specific sessions can be reserved.
