A BROMSGROVE based specialist nursing team has raised a hefty sum for a charity supporting those they care for.
The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Nursing Team in Bromsgrove proudly took part in the Birmingham MS Walk and raised over £1,730 for MS research.
The team signed up to walk 5km through Birmingham for MS Society’s national campaign to raise awareness and funds for people affected by the condition.
The MS Walk is held annually across major UK cities including London, Manchester, and Glasgow, inviting people of all ages and abilities to walk 1km, 5km, or 10km.
Multiple Sclerosis can cause a wide range of symptoms including fatigue, mobility issues, sight loss, and problems with continence, often turning everyday life into a challenge.
Run by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, the MS Nursing team supports MS patients throughout their journey – from diagnosis to treatment.
This includes supporting patients and families to manage symptoms, access appropriate treatment options, and monitor the progression of their condition.
Nicola Kelly, one of the team’s longest-serving nurses with over 20 years in the role said: “We support people living with MS every day, but this walk was a chance to show support not just professionally, but personally.
“It’s so important we all play a part in raising awareness of MS and if possible, contribute to the research in stopping it.
“Today, we walked as individuals, colleagues, and allies, standing up for not just those living with MS, but for their loved ones too.”
The idea to take part in the MS Walk came from Clair Amos, an administrative member of team.
Donning their orange t-shirts, the team were also joined on the day by the children of two team members – 3-year-old Max and 4-year-old Phoebe – who brought smiles and extra energy to the walk.
The event was kicked off by BBC Radio 2 DJ Scott Mills, an ambassador for the MS Society, and concluded with cheers, medals, and generous donations of all involved.
The team hopes their participation will inspire others to join the cause next year.
