WILL Tuffin took three late wickets as Bromsgrove CC secured a dramatic eight-run win against Lye.

Tuffin’s late burst inspired the Boars to victory while George Flowers took the decisive wicket at St. Godwalds Park.

The result means Bromsgrove sit second in the Worcestershire County League Premier Division table behind leaders Stourport.

Lye won the toss and put Bromsgrove into bat as the home side’s top order all scored well.

Openers Timothy Barnes (23) and Jayden Levitt (34) put on 75 runs for the first wicket only to both fall in the space of three balls.

However, Liam Ridings (42) and Alex Milton (31) combined at the crease in a 65-run third-wicket stand.

With Bromsgrove well-placed on 140-3, Lye bowler Waqas Ahmed (5-46) delivered a devastating spell with the ball.

Ahmed caught and bowled Milton and also accounted for Tom Green (15), Ridings, Greg Chinn (7) and Adam Jones (10).

Bromsgrove reached 210 all out in 47.1 overs as Lye’s Zeeshan Ahmed (3-15) mopped up the home side’s tail order.

However, the Boars started well with the ball as Flowers (3-60) removed Lye openers Ghulam Abbas (2) and Raja Jahanzeb (9) inside eight overs.

And the wickets of W Ahmed (17) and Hassan Ejaz (23) left Lye on 90-4.

However, Raja Asad Raza (65 not out) and Kamran Mehram (40) propelled Lye to 179-5 with an 89-run fifth-wicket stand.

As Lye closed in on victory, Tuffin (3-52) bowled Z Ahmed (0) for a duck which sparked a dramatic collapse.

Tuffin also claimed the scalps of Daniyal Bhatti (0) and Ansar Mahmood (5) to leave the Boars one wicket from victory.

And Flowers trapped Ikram Mussadaq (2) LBW as Lye lost their final six wickets for the addition of just 23 runs with the visitors all out for 202.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Astwood Bank on Saturday, July 5 with the game to start at 12pm at St. Godwalds Park.
