BROMSGROVE District Council has spent over £50,000 on Christmas decorations in the town over the last two years, a freedom of information request has revealed.
The local authority shared details of its spending on Christmas lights and other related decorations after a freedom of information request was sent to nearly 400 councils across the UK.
In each of the previous two years (2023 and 2024), BDC spent £24,436 on Christmas lights for a combined total of £48,872 over the last two years.
The council also spent £941.67 on other Christmas decorations such as trees in 2023 and an estimated £1,500 in 2024. Coupled with the Christmas lights costs, the total spent by the council on festive decorations totals £51,313.67 in the last two years.
The freedom of information request was sent to the council in October 2024, with a response coming in recent months.
The request also asked the council for a detailed expenditure of the costs of having celebrities host Christmas lights switch on events, however the council had not done so in the previous two years.
