Community Cafe in Blackwell hails successful first year

A COMMUNITY cafe in Blackwell is celebrating its first successful first year, thanks to an amazing team of volunteers providing more than 1,000 hours of free work to support the project.

In its first 12 months, Muntjacs Cafe at Blackwell Community Hall has generated £5,000 in profits, allowing the venture to buy new chairs, tables and a top-grade barista coffee machine.

Hall committee chair Terry Pauley said he was delighted the cafe was successfully achieving its aim of bringing the community together.

“Thank you to all our wonderful customers, we love to see the cafe filled with people and have made so many new friends.

“Thank you also to our fabulous team of over 20 volunteers.

“We’re a ‘not for profit’ organisation and they all work for nothing.”

The cafe opens frim 10am to 2pm every Saturday, offering freshly ground coffee, tea, assorted chilled drinks, tea cakes, locally made cakes and other occasional specials.

The community hall at the top of Greenhill, is run entirely for the benefit of the residents of Blackwell and neighbouring areas.

There are numerous classes throughout the week as well as the cafe.

It can be hired for regular bookings.
