BROMSGROVE CC slipped to a five-wicket defeat against Coombs Wood despite an unbeaten half-century from Mark Bilbrough.

Coombs Wood won the toss and put Bromsgrove in to bat at Stewarts Road.

Opener Alistair Hickman (20) helped the visitors reach 52-3 after Nicholas Blackmore (6) and Joey Bilbrough (5) fell cheaply.

However, M Bilbrough (59 not out) and David Collins (37) combined for an 87-run fourth-wicket stand.

Collins eventually fell before Chris Mole (25) chipped in with some useful runs.

Home bowler Carl Whyte (3-11) ripped through Bromsgrove’s tail order as the visitors closed on 213-8 at the end of their 50 overs.

The hosts put on 50 runs for their first wicket in reply as openers Billy Jinks (32) and Dan Birch (26) helped Coombs Wood reach 69-3.

However, the home side’s middle order all scored well as Kishor Patel (38) and Whyte (46) put on 92 runs for the fourth wicket.

And Kymani Sexius (34 not out) and Jamie Smith (13 not out) then came together to guide the hosts to victory with five wickets and nine overs to spare despite the best efforts of Mole (3-40).

The result means Bromsgrove sit third in Division Two of the Worcestershire County League.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Pedmore on Saturday, May 31 with the game to begin at 12pm(midday) at Rectory Glebe.
