MORE than £11,000 was raised for Blood Cancer UK at this year’s Bromsgrove Fun Run which was held on May 11.

Around 250 runners took on the course which started at Bromsgrove Rugby Club.

They could choose between the 5k and 10k course.

In the 10k men’s event, James Marshall was first, Steven Dunsby was second and Ollie Wilson was third.

The women’s 10k was won by Louise Osbourne with Lucy Roebuck in second and Sian Hughes third.

In the men’s 5k, Ted Saxton came home first, Archie Lynch was the runner-up (both juniors) and Tom Salisbury came third.

And the women’s 5k was won by Charlotte Asscough with Hollie Hanson second and Martha Blower third (all juniors).

Organiser Nicole Harris from the Bromsgrove Blood Cancer UK branch said: “The weather, as every year, was excellent, but maybe not for the runners but we had made sure there were plenty of water stations.

“MP Bradley Thomas came to the run to support us and we were also delighted to have a support nurse from Blood Cancer UK who could answer any medical inquiries concerning blood cancers.

“It was a great atmosphere and all the runners were so supportive and would like to thank them all, as well as everyone who helped on the day or sponsored anyone for our event.”

Many of the runners have been taking on the event for the cause for a very long time and the oldest was 81.

Many youngsters took part in the 5k with many finishing in high positions.

Next year’s event will take place on May 10.
