RESIDENTS in Rubery can now work out in a local park at no extra cost after new gym equipment has been installed.
Local Labour councillors, Peter McDonald and Esther Gray, were delighted to see the old equipment in St Chad’s Park replaced with new apparatus. It means residents can work out in the open for free.
Councillor Peter McDonald said: “I am really delighted to see the old worn-out equipment I managed to fund many years ago replaced. Too often worn-out equipment is taken away and never replaced.”
The pair have used various revenue streams available to them through Bromsgrove District Council’s commitments to improve parks and open spaces across the region to help fund the equipment.
The council committed to funding improvements at its play facilities in February’s budget, with a plan released in December 2024 budgeting for a £2 million spend but over the next 10 years.
Councillor Gray added: “I am determined to see further investment especially improving the ground around the play area which most of the year is a quagmire.”
