BROMSGROVE’S historic building museum – Avoncroft – has been recognised as one of Worcestershire’s best visitor attractions.

The museum has garnered recent success and acknowledgement after scooping two accolades at the Visit Worcestershire Tourism Awards last Friday (March 21).

Avoncroft was crowned Small Visitor Attraction of the Year while one of its volunteer’s, Andrew Hurley, was named Worcestershire’s Tourism Unsung Hero.

Andrew has been a dedicated member of Avoncroft Museum’s volunteer team for 30 years and is responsible for establishing and developing the centre’s National Collection of Telephone Kiosks.

Avoncroft Museum director, Zoe Willems, said: “We are delighted to receive this important award reflecting the incredible dedication and achievements of Avoncroft’s small team of staff and volunteers.

“I am also delighted that Andrew Hurley has received long overdue recognition for the passion he has shown in developing the National Collection of Telephone Kiosks, one of the most important and popular parts of the collection.”

Over 70 finalists were shortlisted by industry-expert judges for the awards ceremony, with 16 winners recognised for their excellence and contribution to the Worcestershire visitor economy.

The glamorous awards evening was held at Three Counties Showground and was hosted by TV presenter and food expert, Chris Bavin. The event attracted over 370 attendees from across the business community.

The event also raised £3,500 in vital funds for local charity, Midlands Air Ambulance. Visit Worcestershire winners will now be put forward to the VisitEngland Awards of Excellence.

Lorna Robinson, visitor economy and destination manager at Visit Worcestershire said: “The awards have been an amazing celebration of Worcestershire’s incredible tourism sector.
