BROMSGROVE ROVERS AFC’s title hopes suffered a blow after losing 3-2 away at league leaders Silhill in a thriller, writes Neil Gordon.

Both teams went all out for victory in the top-of-the-table clash at Sharmans Cross Road as Rovers AFC surrendered a second-half lead.

The Greens overturned a first-half deficit, after George Taylor opened the scoring for Silhill, as Ben Hill drew Rovers level before Ryan Moore put Bromsgrove ahead early in the second half.

However, Drew Hill equalised for Silhill before Dave Geary’s late strike denied Rovers AFC a share of the spoils.

The result means Bromsgrove remain second in the Birmingham and District Football League Division Two table and now trail leaders Silhill by six points.

Taylor fired Silhill into an early lead with the hosts out to avenge their 5-2 defeat against Bromsgrove in the reverse fixture back in October.

However, Bromsgrove deservedly drew level just before half-time when B Hill placed a shot into the bottom corner following a counter attack.

And Moore completed the turnaround early in the second half when he volleyed home a cross from the right.

However, D Hill equalised for Silhill when he scored following a corner before Geary restored the home side’s lead with a late goal despite the best efforts of Josh Nicholas in the Bromsgrove net.

Rovers AFC assistant manager, Kristian Rock said: “The players were magnificent with everyone giving 110 per cent.

“We told the players afterwards how well they are doing, holding their own in our first season in a higher league.”

Bromsgrove are next in action against Hampton Sports on Saturday, March 15 with kick-off at 2.30pm and admission free at Field Lane.
