BROMSGROVE RFC returned to winning ways with a 27-15 victory away at Bridgnorth as the Boars passed the 100-try mark for the season.

Tries from Jordan Maddocks, Tom Cubitt and the returning Tom Sadler inspired the Boars to victory at Bandon Lane while Tom Mitchell added 12 points from the kicking tee.

And the result means Bromsgrove sit third in the Regional 1 Midlands table.

The Boars included five debutants in the squad while top try scorer Sadler made his return from injury.

After a flurry of kicks in the opening exchanges, Bromsgrove eventually gained the upper hand as Maddocks scored the away side’s 100th try of the season in the corner and Mitchell converted.

However, Bridgnorth responded with a converted try under the posts to bring the scores level.

The Boars reclaimed the lead in bizarre fashion as Mitchell’s penalty hit both posts and bounced back into play with Cubitt the quickest to react to dot down the loose ball.

Bridgnorth kicked a penalty before the interval to send the Boars into the break with a four-point lead.

The home side’s indiscipline allowed Bromsgrove to kick two penalties early in the second half and stretch their lead to 10 points.

And after Bridgnorth looked likely to turn pressure into points, Sadler intercepted a pass and sprinted the length of the pitch to put the visitors out of sight.

Bridgnorth scored a consolation try 10 minutes from time as the Boars comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to complete a league double over the hosts.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Banbury on Saturday, March 8 with kick-off at 3pm at Finstall Park.
