FEMALE footballers will be front and centre at Bromsgrove Sporting’s upcoming mens first team fixture this weekend to show solidarity for all genders in the sport on International Women’s Day.
When Sporting’s first team men play AFC Telford United at Bromsgrove’s UK Electrical Stadium (Saturday, March 8), women and girls will be invited onto the pitch at half-time in celebration of the symbolic day.
The goal of the event is to make football more accessible by highlighting that the sport is for everyone.
Sporting feel celebrating International Women’s Day this year is particularly poignant for them given the phenomenal success of their Ladies First Team.
Last season the Ladies soared their way through to Tier 6 after finishing top of their table – unbeaten in all of their league games.
Alongside the ladies first team successes, the club has developed 4 new female football teams over the last two years to complement their existing ladies first and Under 18 teams.
By aiming to tackle barriers of inequality and create more opportunities for females to thrive in football, Bromsgrove Sporting is inspiring others to take up the sport.
Hayley Jepson, ladies development team, said: “This is a brilliant opportunity for women and girls to embrace and contribute to local football, whether it’s as players, fans, or supporters of the male or female game.
“Raising the profile of female football is vital to inspiring future generations into the sport.
“What better way to break down barriers to signify how empowering female football is in the local community, than uniting teams to collectively share our goal during the men’s game on International Women’s Day.”
As it’s International Women’s Day on match day (Saturday, March 8), women can enjoy half price entry and girls under the age of 16 can enter the ground for free. Kick off is 3pm.
Bromsgrove Sporting is urging members of local female footballs teams (of any age) to get in touch be involved in the event. Also reach out to find out more about opportunities for female footballers at the club.
