BROMSGROVE Sporting have appointed Reece King as the club’s new captain following the departure of former skipper Luke Rowe.

King captained the side for the first time in Sporting’s dramatic victory away at Barwell as the Rouslers scored two late goals to snatch the points.

The midfielder previously held the position of vice-captain but will now take the armband on a permanent basis.

Rowe left Sporting to join divisional rivals AFC Telford United who are chasing the league title.

King, who previously captained Stourbridge, became the club’s first signing ahead of the current campaign back in the summer.

And the midfielder spoke of his pride at becoming captain of the Rouslers.

King said: “Monday’s win was massive. It was our first game without Luke Rowe, who has been such a huge character for this club.

“He’s going to be a big miss, on and off the pitch, but getting that result showed the fight and togetherness we have in the squad.

“On a personal note, leading this team as captain is a huge honour. Actually living in Bromsgrove, I know what this club means to so many people, and I couldn’t be prouder to wear the armband.

“The passion, the hard work, the commitment – it’s all there, and we want to make sure we show that every time we step onto the pitch.

“This Saturday, we’re back at home against Sudbury, and we need everyone behind us. It’s going to be a tough game, but with the support of our incredible fans, we know we can make it a fortress.

“Let’s keep the momentum from Monday night’s unbelievable scenes going.”
