STUDENTS from Bromsgrove School have raised over £10,000 for charity after journeying the equivalent distance from Cairo to Cape Town for a triathlon event.
Bromsgrove School shared its pride after celebrating the ‘remarkable’ efforts and generosity displayed by its pupils and staff after completing the feat to raise funds for CDG UK.
CDG UK is the national charity supportingdise those affected by Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG) – a group of extremely rare and complex genetic, metabolic diseases, which affects all parts of the body including the brain.
For the triathlon, participants from two of the school’s competitive houses – Housman Hall and Lyttelton House – swam, ran and cycled to cover a truly ‘outstanding’ total distance between them.
The students covered a total of 10,372 km including 251.2 km of swimming, 7,886.3km of cycling and 2,234.5 km of running.
Headmaster of Bromsgrove School, Michael Punt, said: “I was incredibly impressed by the efforts of the members of Lyttelton and Housman Hall.
“They completed their Cairo to Cape Town triathlon in under 24 hours, with just under half an hour to spare, raising over £10,000 in aid of CDG UK.
“I suspect this is an event that the pupils involved will remember for a long time, and they will have made a significant difference to the charity.”
Bromsgrove School also wanted to express its ‘heartfelt’ thanks to all who participated, donated, or volunteered in support of the event.
The school challenges its pupils to look for creative ways to continually support charitable causes and foster a culture of kindness and giving.
