BROMSGROVE ROVERS AFC’s title hopes suffered a blow after losing 6-4 in a goal bonanza against Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons, writes Neil Gordon.
A nightmare first half saw Bromsgrove five goals behind at the interval only for an Alex Footman brace and strikes from George Tolley and Ryan Moore to spark a remarkable fightback at Boldmere Road.
However, Dalton Davidson’s goal ended Rovers’ hopes of producing a stunning comeback while Leonardo Torres netted twice for the home side with further goals coming from John Parkes, Marcus Shaw and Matthew Cockayne.
Rovers AFC remain in second place in the Birmingham and District Football League Division Two table, three points behind leaders Silhill who also have a game in-hand.
Boldmere made a blistering start as Torres scored twice inside the opening 10 minutes looking to avenge their defeat against Rovers in November earlier this season.
And Parkes and Shaw then both struck to increase the home side’s lead.
Shortly before half time, Cockayne found the net to leave Bromsgrove with a mountain to climb at the break.
However, the Greens made the perfect start to the second period as Footman scored twice to give the visitors a glimmer of hope.
And further strikes from Tolley and Moore saw Bromsgrove reduce the deficit to a single goal.
However, Davidson added Boldmere’s sixth goal to inflict a second successive league defeat on Rovers.
