BROMSGROVE RFC surrendered a 16-point lead in a 33-19 home defeat against unbeaten league leaders Syston.

The Boars stunned the visitors to lead by 16 points just past the half-hour mark as Will Tanner kicked three penalties and Tom Sadler crossed for a converted try at Finstall Park.

However, Syston reduced the deficit to four points at the break and scored three second-half tries to protect their unbeaten start to the season.

And the result means Bromsgrove sit third in the Regional 1 Midlands table.

The Boars made the perfect start when Tanner kicked a penalty with just three minutes on the clock.

And Tanner kicked two further penalties in the space of four minutes to stretch Bromsgrove’s lead for nine points.

The home side scored the game’s first try on 31 minutes when Ben Tibbetts intercepted a long pass and offloaded to Sadler who dotted down as Tanner kicked the extras.

However, Syston scored two tries in the space of seven minutes to close the gap to four points at the interval.

And Syston picked up where they left off after the break to score two further tries and take a 10-point lead.

Another Tanner penalty kept the Boars in the contest only for Syston to score the game’s final try straight from the restart.

Bromsgrove are next in action against Derby on Saturday, February 1 with kick-off at 2.30pm at Haslams Lane.
