Blackwell Fringe festival to debut in Bromsgrove this year

Bromsgrove Editorial 3rd Feb, 2025   0

A NEW fringe-style festival is coming to Bromsgrove this year with the promise of arts and culture for all of the family.

Blackwell Fringe aims to showcase the very best of local talent with performances and exhibitions including dance, music, poetry, comedy and art.

The festival will take place from Friday, May 9 to Sunday, May 11. Bill Heneghan, one of the founders of the festival says he has been ‘blown away’ by the positive responses from the village.

He said: “People are asking us what events are on, and lots and lots of people are asking if they can get involved, to which the answer is ‘yes’.

“We are working with a number of community groups to see how we can include them and their talents.”

More than a hundred performers have already committed to the festival which will be almost entirely free of charge.

The events will take place across the village’s four main venues from the first school and St Catherine’s Church to Blackwell club and the community hall, with more locations expected to come on board.

“Having put on festivals in the village for 13 years, we know that Blackwell people and those living nearby are always willing to support community events and they will turn out in big numbers,” Bill added.

The Ignited Voices choir is one of the first groups to sign up for Blackwell Fringe.

Choir founder, Alicia Benbow said: “It’s a fantastic idea and I think everyone will really enjoy it, because you can just pick the thing that you love most.

“It’s a great opportunity for us as a new choir to perform in the community and spread the joy that we’re creating as Ignited Voices, and to just be a part of such a fabulous event.”

Organisers say more details will be released as the calendar is finalised. Those interested in getting involved can contact festival organisers via facebook.com/BlackwellFestival for more information.
