Police warning over increase of car-key burglaries in Bromsgrove and Rubery

Bromsgrove Editorial 20th Jan, 2025   0

A NUMBER of car-key burglaries across Bromsgrove and Rubery have prompted police to issue a warning to drivers, writes May-Ling Turner.

The police want to reassure the community officers are working to trace those responsible.

Car-key burglaries take place when raiders break into a home with the specific aim of removing car keys and stealing a car from that property.

The police said: “The most common methods used by thieves are to follow victims home or ‘cruise’ around residential areas looking for opportunities.”

Anyone who thinks somebody is following them or sees any suspicious vehicles should report the registration number to the police.

There are ways to reduce chances of becoming a victim of car key burglars – drivers should keep keys somewhere out of sight, close all the doors and windows when leaving a vehicle, fit a high quality alarm onto vehicles and always lock cars away safely in the garage, if possible.

Officers say these are some of the most effective ways to deter potential thieves.

It is also important to be safe at home by installing a high quality burglar alarm, making sure all windows and doors are securely locked and installing an exterior security lighting system.
