A CARE home is offering free events to help educate people on dementia, writes May-Ling Turner.
Chandler Court on Recreation Road, Bromsgrove, will hold the sessions from 11am to 3pm on Wednesday, January 22.
There will be another one next month from 2pm to 4pm on February 26.
The events are being put on as part of The Big Dementia Conversation, a nationwide scheme.
Lilly Dahms, home manager at Chandler Court, said: “Most people will be affected by dementia in their lifetime – whether it’s through a loved one’s diagnosis or their own.”
Many Brits remain unaware of how older people can lead meaningful lives with dementia, prompting Care UK, which runs Chandler Court, to relaunch its Big Dementia Conversation for the second year running.
The ‘Living Well with Dementia’ session on Wedmesday will cover the benefits of adapting activities to make them meaningful to help loved ones live well with dementia. Complimentary refreshments will also be available.
Barbara Stephens, CEO of Dementia Pathfinders, will lead the ‘Adjusting to a Diagnosis of Dementia’ session on February 26. She will discuss the journey of dementia following a diagnosis and offer advice on living positively with the condition.
Chandler Court care home provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, and short-term respite care, enabling its residents to live fulfilling lives with its very own cinema, cafe and hair salon.
A new free online advice hub has also been launched for the Bromsgrove community to access in addition to these two events.
The hub includes in-depth conversations with families of people living with dementia, as well as expert advice from Care UK’s dementia specialists to learn how to reduce the risks and symptoms of the condition.
Places are limited so booking is recommended.
