EVERYONE is invited to join the vice-chairman of Bromsgrove District Council, Coun Bakul Kumar, and Rev Ray Khan later this month for this year’s Holocaust Memorial Service.
Each year, a service is held for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) to remember the millions of people killed in the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution, and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.
Important to remember
Chairman of Bromsgrove District Council, Coun Sam Ammar, said: “As we observe this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day theme of ‘For a Better Future,’ it is vital for our community to pause and reflect on the profound suffering caused by the Holocaust.
“By acknowledging this tragic history, we can better understand the ongoing injustices faced by many around the world today.
“We invite all residents to join us in this crucial moment of reflection, honouring those who have endured pain and suffering due to dehumanisation and hate. Let us strive for a world filled with peace, love, and respect, united as one humanity, without divisions.”
This year’s memorial service
The Bromsgrove Memorial Service will take place in Parkside at 11am on Monday, January 27.
It was due to be in Sanders Park but the venue was switched amidst a weather warning.
The short service will also see several local middle and high schools along with readers from all faiths take part.
This year up and down the country the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day is ‘For a Better Future’ and the hope is HMD can be an opportunity for people to come together, learn both from and about the past, and take actions to make a better future for all.
In The Holocaust, 11million people, including 6million Jews, were systematically murdered in Europe between 1941 and 1945 by the Nazis and their collaborators. It is the worst genocide in history.
