TIM Flowers admits ‘it will take time’ to implement his style at Alvechurch despite making a winning start with a 1-0 victory against Bedford Town.

Flowers enjoyed the perfect start to life at Lye Meadow as Archie Crowther headed in the game’s only goal to end Church’s seven game winless run in the league despite Omari Sterling-James seeing red for the home side in the second half.

The result lifts Alvechurch up to 15th in the Southern League Premier Central table and Flowers is confident his side can move higher up the division.

Flowers said: “It was a real war in really poor conditions, the players showed a real resilience in the conditions, which is key, if I see a level of commitment and desire and a will to win, I’ll take that whatever the result.

“That is an absolute minimum requirement, landing on second balls, putting your foot in, putting your head in and they did it and did it really well.

“In the end I said to them ‘I’m proud and I’m delighted with your attitude and application’ they know what I want.

“It was interesting for me to learn about people, I’m a quick learner so I will suss people out very quickly, I can be a little bit old school at times.

“We’ll be organised, we’ll be committed, I think there’s enough quality in the squad to do a lot better and hopefully move up the division.

“There’s a multitude of things I want to look at and it is going to take time.”

In a game of few chances, played in treacherous conditions, Crowther headed Sterling-James’ cross into the bottom left corner on 13 minutes to earn Church a first league win since mid-September.

However, Church forward Sterling-James received a straight red card on 78 minutes after he appeared to lash out at a Bedford player as the home side held on to secure the points.

Alvechurch travel to Highgate United in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Tuesday, November 26 with kick-off at 7.45pm at The Coppice.
