Catshill defies Storm Bert to ensure Christmas lights switch-on goes ahead

Tristan Harris 24th Nov, 2024   0

STORM Bert could not prevent the annual Catshill Christmas lights switch-on taking place yesterday evening (Saturday).

The event was scaled back for safety reasons amidst the high winds and heavy rain which had been forecast.

The Christmas lights switch-on was moved online on the Catshill Community Events and Catshill group Facebook pages.

Hundreds tuned in live and more than 1,500 viewed the video afterwards.

At the event at Catshill Village Hall Father Christmas still arrived from the North Pole to help Ivy, Lydia and Megan, from Catshill Middle School, who came up with the best Christmas Card designs in the annual competition.

Their prize was the chance to push the plunger to light up the tree and the village hall.

The rest of the village had been lit up days before and the whole village is now illuminated for the festive season.
