VILLAGERS of all ages came together in Catshill today for the annual Remembrance Sunday commemorations.
The day started with a service at the Catshill Working Men’s Club before those attending made their way to the war memorial.

The parade from Catshill Middle School was led by the Bromsgrove Boys Brigade and there were also a number of standard bearers in attendance, including the Guides and Scouts.

At the memorial, there were readings, along with a two-minute silence and wreath-laying.

Among those laying wreaths were Coun Shirley Webb – on behalf of Worcestershire County Council and town MP Bradley Thomas.
And Coun Bernard McEldowney on behalf of Catshill Parish Council.

After the proceedings had been concluded, there were refreshments in the Catshill Club.
Daren Lacey from Catshill Royal British Legion said: “We had a great turn-out here today with everyone joining to remember the fallen.”

The railings at Catshill War Memorial were seriously damaged in February when a car ploughed into them. But, thanks to Daren, they have been restored to their former glory.

He added: “Everyone was worried beforehand about the railings but we got it sorted – I had so many people come up to me today and say how relieved they were that they were back in place where they belong.”

Rubery remembers

HUNDREDS of people attended the annual service at the Rubery Memorial Club on New Road.
Rev Claire Turner, from St Chad’s Church, led the service which included a two-minute silence and wreath-laying.
The service was followed by a parade down New Road and 15 minutes of prayers, hymns and music inside St Chad’s Church.
Refreshments were also available from the Rubery Memorial Club.
Rev Turner said: “It was a fantastic turn-out and a very fitting tribute to the fallen.
“It was an honour to be involved in the commemorations and I would like to personally thank everyone who made it happen.”
Civic service
This evening there was a Civic Service of Remembrance at Beacon Church Centre with readings, prayers and hymns.
The event was attended by Bromsgrove District Council Chairman, Coun Sam Ammar, who laid a wreath in memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Coun Ammar said: ““The moving service at the Beacon Church Centre emphasised the true significance of this important day.
“This evening we cherished the memories of those who have given their lives for our freedom.
“Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
Armistice Day in Rubery
And tomorrow (Monday) to mark Armistice Day, there will be a short Act of Remembrance outside St Chad’s Church at 10.55am with a two-minute silence at 11am.
