All change as Bromsgrove Repair Cafe has new co-ordinator

Tristan Harris 29th Oct, 2024   0

THERE was a change at the top of the thriving Bromsgrove Repair Cafe when chair and co-ordinator Ros Cooke handed over the reins after three years.

Taking over is Julie Robinson who plans to bring fresh ideas, enthusiasm and energy.

The change took place at the group’s AGM last month when there was also a report on the repair cafe’s activities from August 2023 to July 2024.

During those 12 months, a total of 510 items were repaired, including a good many electical or electronic items. It made for a 36 per cent increase on last year.

Of the items brought, 70 per cent were successfully fixed, up from 67 per cent in the previous 12 months.

The total number of visitors at 433 was on a par with last year.

More information has also recently been released on Facebook in the 24 hours before each cafe to let people know which repairers would be available.

The repair cafe takes place on the first Saturday of the month – the next one is from 2.30pm to 5.30pm this Saturday (November 2) at All Saints Church Hall. The car park is currently closed but there is parking at Artrix and in Burcot Lane.

The admin process on reception has also been streamlined to cut waiting times.

Organisers are hoping many residents will come early to get festive items, such as malfunctioning Christmas tree lights, fixed.

On average there are 13 repairers at each session – Bromsgrove has 21, including two keen bike repairers, and has borrowed four others fixers from two other cafes.
