THIS YEAR’S Bromsgrove Remembrance Sunday service will be accessible to more people, thanks to the district council.
The authority has agreed to put a temporary surface around the memorial and benches in Crown Close to enable those lest able to take part in the Act of Remembrance and Service on November 10.
This will also be replaced with a permanent path in the new year, along with a permanent hard-standing around the flag pole and a new Union Flag.
A meeting was held with Bromsgrove Royal British Legion chairman, Jeff Evans, Bromsgrove District Council leader, Coun Karen May, the authority’s deputy chief executive, Peter Carpenter, George Chase, the council’s interim environmental services manager and Doug Henderson, also from environmental services to finalise the plans.
Tony Hawkesworth has been instrumental in the changes. He, along with GT Access Hire Ltd which provided a hoist, has also cleaned the Crown Close, Aston Fields and Catshill war memorials, ready for this year’s commemorations.
Mr Evans said: “All the memorials are now in a very much better state than before and will indeed get cleaner as the spray used will continue to work.
“Everyone agreed that the temporary path and, in the new year, a permanent one, will allow those less able and indeed anyone wishing to take a few moments of remembrance and reflection, to access the memorial and benches.”
