PAUL Smith has called for ‘calm heads’ after Bromsgrove Sporting lost 2-0 against Harborough Town to suffer a sixth league defeat in their last seven matches.
A freak own goal from Ethan Patterson opened the scoring before Ben Stephens sealed the points for the home side in injury time at Harborough Town Community Football Ground.
That came after 10-man Sporting lost 3-2 away at Stamford last weekend and with the Rouslers five points from safety in the Southern League Premier Central relegation zone, Smith insists his side must show heart and desire to climb out of the drop zone.
Smith said: “The performances aren’t as bad as the run of results we’ve accrued just recently.
“I can’t knock the endeavour and work rate of the boys it’s not a bad performance albeit we haven’t created many clear-cut chances.
“When things aren’t going your way, those kind of things go against you [the own goal], it’s something we’ve got to deal with.
“That’s where we are at the moment, ultimately it’s a results game and we’ve lost a lot of games recently.
“We’ve got a nice break now to try and regroup, get things together and have a management meeting to see where we’re falling short.
“It’s tough for everybody at the moment but it takes heart, desire and calm heads to get out of situations like this.
“I think the break will do us the world of good.”
Harborough took the lead on 49 minutes when Patterson’s sliced clearance at the near post went into his own net.
And Town eventually made sure of the points three minutes into injury time as Stephens lobbed the ball over Charlie Price.
Bromsgrove are next in action against Bedford Town on Saturday, November 2 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
