TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Bromsgrove Rovers footballer who has died at the age of 60.

Mark Crisp made almost 350 appearances for the club, scoring 91 goals in the early to mid 1990s.

One of his most memorable moments was a goal against Barnsley in the FA Cup third round in the 1993 to 1994 season.

He scored after 31 minutes in front of 4,893 fans at the Victoria Ground. Rovers were 1-0 up in their first ever appearance in round three, thanks to Crisp’s goal. But then, with two minutes to go, Barnsley scored twice in quick succession.

The Tykes’ manager Viv Anderson described his team as ‘the luckiest in the world’.

Mark’s son Max said: ““Firstly, as a family, we wanted to thank everyone for the kind messages and memories that they have shared about my dad.

“My dad played for Bromsgrove for a number of years, as well as being well known in the town, and we have taken a lot of comfort from the outpouring of love from everybody.

“He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him and will always be remembered for that goal versus Barnsley.”

If you would like to pay your respect to ‘Kipper’, the funeral will take place at 2pm on October 24 at St John’s Church.

Max added: “The wake will then be held at Bromsgrove Sporting after the service, where everyone is welcome to come and celebrate a true legend.”
