Oddfellows highlights community events for over 50s in Bromsgrove

AN HISTORIC society founded to foster connections is highlighting its social events for people in Bromsgrove in the wake of Friendship Month.

Oddfellows, which has a rich history dating as far back as a fraternity from 587 BC, wants to bring its social events for over 50s to the attention of residents in Bromsgrove.

Recently, Oddfellows hosted a special Friendship Month event in Bromsgrove to bring people together in a bid to combat loneliness and provide opportunities for attendees to make friends and fill their ‘social diary’.

The event encouraged visitors to play board games, partake in quizzes, enjoy cakes and refreshments and get to know each other.

Wayne Homer, a social organiser for Oddfellows, said: “The buzz you get from being in friendly company is indisputable, so thank you to everyone who came along to make this year’s events so enjoyable and uplifting.”

The organiser hosts social events and activities throughout the year in and around Bromsgrove. Oddfellows’ next event in Bromsgrove will be a Cuppa and Catch Up from 11am to 12.30pm on Monday, October 21 at Bromsgrove Golf Centre.

Cuppa and Catch Up events will continue at the same venue in Bromsgrove on the third Monday of every month (11am to 12.30pm – Bromsgrove Golf Centre).

There will be a variety of brain teasers or a fun quiz to enjoy, if you wish to take part. Events are free. Non-members must cover the cost of a drink.

Wayne added: “It was a pleasure to get to know so many new faces at our the social events and we look forward to seeing more new members at future events.

“We know people can often feel anxious about the one-on-one nature of making new friends, but giving one of our group events a go definitely breaks the ice.

“The events are hosted and you can join in as much or as little as you want by leading the conversation or by simply sitting back and listening. The important bit is that we’re getting together.”

A meeting has also been mooted in Rubery, with plans to organise events for the new year.
