COMMUNITY FOOTBALL club Bromsgrove Rovers AFC has purchased a life-saving defibrillator with generous donations received from the Bromsgrove Santa Sleigh which the club helped to save, writes Neil Gordon.

The football club and Bromsgrove Logistics stepped in to save the Santa Sleigh event a year ago after previous organisers Bromsgrove Round Table were unable to continue, with funds from the event now being used to purchase a defibrillator for Charford Recreation Ground, Bromsgrove.

A Bromsgrove Rovers AFC spokesperson said the club was pleased to be able to fund the device, thanks to generous donations, adding the life-saving kit now installed at Charford Recreation Ground would benefit of the whole community.

“This location was chosen because it is a residential area which was without a defibrillator, and there are also football pitches here used by our club.”

The device was purchased from Bruce Hims of Bruce’s Defibrillator Fundraiser with Bruce being present at the unveiling along with Paul Melbourne, owner of Bromsgrove Logistics, Mark Whitehouse, secretary of Bromsgrove Rovers AFC and U13s players’ Keane Glennon and Joe Coleman.

Donations from last year’s Santa Sleigh were also distributed to other good causes including the Basement Project, St. Basil’s and Sidemoor Community Project after Father Christmas had delighted countless children when he was transported by sleigh around Bromsgrove by the event’s new organisers and kind-hearted volunteers.

The spokesperson added: “It won’t be long before we launch this year’s Santa Sleigh event and we encourage anyone wanting to be involved to contact us through the Bromsgrove Santa Sleigh Facebook page.”
