A RUBERY councillor has shared his delight after seeing local students use the town’s newly updated BMX pump track last week.

Councillor Peter McDonald joined students from Waseley Hills High School last Friday (September 13) to unveil the improved track at Callowbrook Park on Brook Road, Rubery.

The students had been involved in the design process for the new track and were invited to be the first to try it out.

The pump track – which has been revamped thanks to Bromsgrove District Council securing funding back in May – is used by cyclists who can pump their way around the track without pedaling.

It is ideal for gaining balance and bike handling skills.

Coun McDonald said: “I was delighted to see the students enjoying the new BMX Track.

“It’s wonderful to see them enjoying the track they were involved in designing from an early stage.

“It has taken years of campaigning to have the old track replaced and updated. This is one of the best tracks in the district.

“BMX, as an Olympic Sport is growing in popularity and the new pump track is a fantastic addition to the park.

“BMX riding is an excellent form of exercise that helps kids stay physically active and healthy. It helps improve cardiovascular health, balance, coordination, and overall strength.

“Furthermore, the track will be a free space for everyone to use, supporting people and families to be active.”

Bromsgrove District Council secured investment from the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund to develop the track.
