TWO BROMSGROVE Scouting volunteers have been awarded very special coronation medals for their efforts.
Joe Dodman and Jonathan Child were presented with their medals after helping out with King Charles’ Coronation back in May 2023.
19-year-old Joe, who volunteers at 1st Bromsgrove Beaver Scouts in Charford, supported the coronation at Admiralty Arch.
Jonathan Child, who volunteers with 14 to 17-year-old Explorer Scouts in Bromsgrove, helped out by meeting and transporting Scouts from Commonwealth countries across the world as they arrived into London airports ahead of the coronation.
The coronation medals were made by Bromsgrove based company, Worcestershire Medal Service Ltd and were presented by Scouts UK chief commissioner, Carl Hankinson at the annual Gilwell Reunion event in Epping Forest (August 30 to September 1).
Joe Dodman said: “I was very proud to support this historic event, helping the crowds of well-wishers, particularly those with disabilities, access the event, was very fulfilling.
“I was very surprised to then be awarded a coronation medal and will wear this with pride on my uniform. It’s amazing to be presented with a medal made in Bromsgrove.”
Jonathan Child added: “It was a privilege to be asked to be a member of the headquarters team preparing for the King’s coronation.
“To be presented with a Coronation Medal for services to the King and to be presented by the UK Chief Commissioner, Carl Hankinson at the annual Gilwell Reunion event was an honour”.
