Bromsgrove's Catshill Bonfire Extravaganza set to go ahead at new venue in the village

THE CATSHILL Village Fireworks Extravaganza is set to return at a new venue.

The event, organised by Catshill Community Events and hosted by Scouts 6th Bromsgrove with sponsorship from Catshill and North Marlbrook Parish Council (CNMPC), is set to take place on Saturday, November 2, on land off Lingfield Walk.

Gates will open at 5.30pm for an evening of spectacular entertainment.

The Standard reported last month that the event was in jeopardy, due to negative feedback towards volunteers, surrounding the new location.

But the parish council and Catshill Community Events team have worked tirelessly to address these concerns.

‘Event more popular after Bromsgrove District Council’s Sanders Park decision’

Unfortunately, because of the rising popularity – in part to it being one of the few bonfire and fireworks events in Bromsgrove district, the original venue – Catshill Meadows does no longer meet the necessary regulations.

Among the concerns were issues with site access, infrastructure placement and the need for additional toilets.

As a result, the event has been moved to a new location that fully complies with all safety and logistical requirements.

Residents of Lingfield Walk have now been informed of the event plans through a recent visit from representatives of the parish council and Catshill Community Events, ensuring the community is well-prepared for the festivities.

A full risk assessment of the area, including wildlife checks, has been completed and will become dynamic throughout the event.

While the idea of silent fireworks was explored, it was determined any aerial display would inevitably involve noise.

However, the excitement and joy of the event promise to outweigh any concerns.

Phil Love from Catshill Community Events said: “Mark your calendars for the biggest village event of the year.

“Scouts 6th Bromsgrove and Catshill Community Events are thrilled to welcome everyone to this year’s Fireworks celebration.

A Catshill and North Marlbrook Parish Council spokesperson said the authority was delighted to see the event’s return.

“It has always been a highlight for our community, and we’re proud to support the organisers in bringing it back, even bigger and better than before at its new location.

“We look forward to a safe, enjoyable evening that brings our community together in celebration.”

Coun Bernard McEldowney added: “I’m glad common sense has prevailed and that all the obstacles have been addressed – this is good for the community and good for the scouts.

“We hope everyone will come down, support it and have a really great night.”

Bromsgrove District Council has been criticised in recent years for cancelling the Sanders Park bonfire and fireworks and replacing it with a light show.
