WEST MERCIA’S police and crime commissioner (PCC) has invested funds to support over 100 operations to prevent young people becoming victims of serious violence.
The forces targeted response to tackling serious violence including child sexual exploitation (CSE), organised crime and youth knife crime is dubbed operation swordfish.
The PCC, John Campion, has backed the force with needed resources to carry out the extensive number of investigations within operation swordfish. The total investment stands at £18,500.
The investment has supported or generated 120 investigations and operations and has helped gather 106 intelligence reports which identify drug sales linked to organised crime groups and counterfeit money sales.
A total of 31 children have been safeguarded thanks to the funded operation.
John Campion said: “I am committed to stamping outserious violence at the root cause as these types of crimes have noplace within our society.
“It is sadly the case young people are becoming the victims of serious violence as they are exploited and extorted by criminals.
“This is why it’s it vital that preventative activity is undertaken to ensure young people are protected and communities feel safer.
“I am encouraged by the results of Op Swordfish, and I will continue to provide investment to West Mercia Police by providing the tools and resources they need to disrupt this violent activity.
