A CHARITY offering people the chance to discuss the menopause in a comfortable and open setting is coming to Bromsgrove.
The Menopause Cafe charity held its first event in Perth, Scotland in 2017 to provide spaces for conversations about menopause with encouragement to ask questions and share stories, experiences, and tips.
The upcoming Bromsgrove Menopause Cafes will take place from 1pm to 2pm at Bromsgrove Sport and Leisure Centre on August 28, September 25, October 30, November 27, and December 18.
The charity – officially founded by Rachel Weiss in 2018 – arranges cafes around the world with support from different volunteer hosts.
Rachel had previously hosted Death Cafes in Perth, Scotland which sparked the idea for menopause awareness. Now Laura Wilson is working with Rachel’s charity to bring Menopause Cafe’s to Bromsgrove.
She told the Standard: “Before I had sex, my friends talked about their experiences, before I had children my friends talked about their experiences, but my friends weren’t talking about their menopause.
“Menopause is Mother Nature’s wake-up call telling us we have to put ourselves and our health first for a change.
“I’m delighted Laura has brought Menopause Cafes to Bromsgrove, helping to make menopause part of everyday conversation. Men are welcome, since everyone needs to know about menopause.”
Organiser, Laura deemed the first cafe a success last month. Cafes will continue on the last Wednesday of every month.
Menopause Cafe require £12,000 annually to pay a part-time administrator to support hundreds of volunteer hosts. Donations to the charity are welcome.
The charity is also launched a Menopause Awareness ribbon for World Menopause Day 2024 (October 18). This ribbon shows the wearer is open to conversations about menopause.
