National Lottery funded project to inspire generation of artists and friends in Bromsgrove

A NEW ‘Creative Friends’ project is set to be launched in Bromsgrove, thanks to funding from the National Lottery.

The town’s Creative Art Showcase said it was delighted to have received funding for the two-year community scheme.

The aim of it is to bring the community together in the pursuit of inspirational fun art and craft activities whilst participants make new friends, break down barriers and grow stronger communities.

Creative Art Showcase has been providing free or low-cost workshops within the community since its launch during Covid.

The charity volunteers quickly realised more art workshops were needed, particularly now, as people are facing loneliness, mental health issues, and financial difficulties due to the cost-of-living crisis, or one of the many other reasons.

But the charity also recognised the lack of affordable creative opportunities locally.

The new Creative Friends project will offer the opportunity to a regular monthly creative workshop for all. The activities will include painting and drawing, using a large range of techniques.

Craft activities will involve learning a wide range new skills using materials such as clay, resin, textiles.

Other sessions will promote health and wellbeing and will be run by the Bromsgrove community’s very talented artists and artisans.

The workshops will take place on the first Thursday of every month and will begin with a launch evening on September 5 at the Destination Zone, Bromsgrove High Street.

The organisers want as many people as possible to go along, meet the team and find out more. Creative Friends is open to all.

Anyone wanting to book a place or who knows anyone who would benefit from taking part should email [email protected] or call/text 07818 830988 for more.

Creative Art Showcase will once again be holding Showcase 24 at Bromsgrove School in October, the biggest creative event on the district’s annual calendar – it pulls in artists and artisans from across the Midlands.

Any professional or amateur artists who have not booked their artisan stall or entered their artwork into the Open Call for ‘Capturing Creativity’ is urged to do it now.
